City Of Beaumont is Hiring a Planning Intern Near Beaumont, TX

Essential Job Functions: Under the general supervision and guidance of the Planning Manager, this intern will perform a wide range of duties within the Planning Department. The ideal candidate will assist with field research, data collection, archiving, analysis, graphics, maps and data presentation and report develop. Properly interprets and disseminates information regarding land development principles and practices, explaining zoning standards and regulations to applicants, other public agencies, other departments and the public in general.

Work with ESRI GIS software including but not limited to ArcGIS Pro, Portal, AGOL, and FieldMaps; develop and analyze data within an enterprise geodata environment; efficiently manage multiple tasks and responsibilities; collects and prepares data for computer entry; serves as back-up support to Permit Customer Counter.

Normal office environment. Must be available to work between 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday and extended hours if necessary.

Knowledge: Knowledge of higher mathematics; Knowledge of basic principles, techniques, and terminology of City ordinance enforcement; knowledge of the mechanics of zoning ordinances and development techniques; knowledge of City Government hierarchy and organizational structure; user knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) concepts and the ability to use planimetric maps, aerial photographs, engineering scales and other related graphic aids in the review of plans. Working knowledge of geospatial analytics tools. Knowledge of ESRI web applications. Working knowledge of Excel, shapefiles, and geodatabases.

Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions. Ability to follow standard operating procedures. Ability to work independently and with a team. Ability to meet project deadlines. Highly customer service driven and reliable. Strong PC skills. Ability to analyze, problem solve, and creatively develop solutions for geodata-oriented problems.

Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears. Must be able to differentiate colors and see small objects at close range. Frequently climbs, drives, twists body, reads, squats, crouches, crawls, writes by hand, speaks, stands, walks, sits, stoops, uses physical dexterity, bends, carries objects weighing up to 25 lbs., pushes objects weighing up to 70 lbs., lifts and moves objects weighing up to 55 lbs.

Education/Experience: A college student (Sophomore, Junior or Senior) or post graduate student actively working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in GIS, Geospatial Technology, Information Technology or Urban Planning or Public Administration or a related field.

Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver’s License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver’s license. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
