City of Berkeley is Hiring a Firefighter Paramedic - Lateral (Experienced) Near Berkeley, CA

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Firefighter Paramedic in the Fire Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform all duties required to effectively respond to emergency fire suppression and basic life support medical situations. You will be assigned to a truck or engine, typically in a three-person crew, and will respond to fires, medical emergencies, and other emergency and non-emergency situations. This position also functions as a Paramedic, providing advanced life support emergency medical response.

At the time of application:

Graduation from high school, GED or equivalent
Valid California Paramedic license
12 months of full-time paid experience as a Firefighter or Firefighter/Paramedic; ALS medical transport experience is highly desirable
CFSTES or IFSAC/ProBoard Firefighter I Certification

By date of appointment:

Completion of the core courses required to be an Alameda County accredited paramedic

Additional examinations and certificates will be required by completion of probation and within two years of the date of appointment; see job class specification for details.

Other requirements include:

Ability to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent must maintain a valid California Class C or higher driver's license and a satisfactory driving record, and must obtain Firefighter Endorsement prior to the completion of the Fire Academy.
Willing to maintain facial hair in such a way as to ensure proper fitting and operation of self-contained breathing apparatus.
Willing to work shifts as structured in the Fire Department.
Strength and stamina sufficient to lift and carry equipment and patients weighing up to 150 pounds.
