The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Firefighter Paramedic (Entry Level) in the Fire Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn and perform all duties required to effectively respond to emergency fire suppression and basic life support medical situations. You will be assigned to a truck or engine, typically in a three-person crew, and will respond to fires, medical emergencies, and other emergency and non-emergency situations. This position also functions as a Paramedic, providing advanced life support emergency medical response.

- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- Valid California Paramedic License, National Registry Paramedic Certification Card, or be actively participating in a Paramedic Field Internship Program.
- Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Card of Completion issued no earlier than one (1) year from the recruitment filing deadline.
- Successful Completion of the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) written exam completed no earlier than one (1) year from the recruitment filing deadline.
BY DATE OF APPOINTMENT, MUST POSSESS:
- A valid California Paramedic license.
- The core courses required to be an Alameda County accredited paramedic
BY COMPLETION OF PROBATION:
- Completion of the City of Berkeley Firefighter Taskbooks.
- Successful completion of City of Berkeley Firefighter written and psychomotor examinations.

Applications must be received by July 29, 2024at 5:00 PM PSTand must include a completed application, all required certifications and licenses attached as photos/scans, and responses to supplemental questions. Please note that resumes are not a substitute for a completed application.

The exam process will include, but may not be limited to:

EMS Skills Exam [Tentatively between September 17, 2024 through October 3, 2024]
Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
