This is a responsible level of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of trucks and related automotive equipment.

Work involves responsibility for hauling a wide variety of construction, maintenance, merchandise, equipment, or workers.

As assigned, a variety of units may be operated including aerial bucket trucks. The class of Truck Driver is distinguished from that of Laborer in that driving is a primary assignment of employees of this class, although other manual labor may be performed.

Work includes responsibility for cleaning and making minor repairs to assigned equipment. Varied driving assignments are received from a superior;

Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed while in progress or upon completion.

Any position may not include all of the specific duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties which may be performed.

Operates trucks with salt spreaders and snow plow equipped trucks for purposes of snow and ice control

Performs minor adjustment, maintenance, and repair of power hand equipment.

Applies, by hand sprayer or boom sprayers, pesticides to turf and various plants and materials, as directed by supervisor.

Hauls and applies various fertilizers, mulch, and other tree, shrub, and turf care products to various landscaped areas; helps spread materials;

hauls labor crews to assigned areas.

Maintains and repairs underground sprinkler irrigation systems.

Collects and hauls garbage from parks and recreational areas.

Operates larger tractors with gang mower and sickle bar attachments, backhoes, loaders, sweepers, graders, and related equipment on an occasional or relief basis or as training for eventual operation of more complex equipment.

Performs related work as required.

Completion of ten grades of school and the ability to read and understand both oral and written complex instructions; some experience in truck driving including general labor work;

or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills :

Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of trucks and related automotive equipment.

Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and rules and regulations.

Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the applicable safety rules and regulations of equipment operation.

Knowledge of the geography of the City of Bloomington.

Ability to detect needed repair and maintenance.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, City officials, and the general public.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Skill in the operation of light trucks, manual and power maintenance tools, and other assigned equipment.

Possession and maintenance of a valid Illinois Class B Commercial Drivers License.

Ability to secure a State of Illinois Pesticides Operators License.
