EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on automobiles, trucks, tractors, sweepers, and other light and heavy equipment Conduct work functions in a safe and respectful manner, use proper Personal Protective Equipment at all times, adhere to all workplace safety standards Perform emergency field repairs to quickly get equipment back in operation or back to the shop for more permanent problem resolution Document and record all repairs, parts, labor costs, vehicle number, or other required information related to daily operations for fleet information systems including initiating communication with supervisor to discuss improvements in work procedures Perform mandatory regulated inspections; test operation to ensure safe and proper operation on all City vehicles, trucks, and equipment Assist in maintaining effective repair parts, oils, and fuel inventories including inventories and restocking shelves Keep abreast of changes to industry standards and repair procedures to enable technician to provide technical assistance to City staff involving fleet operations Demonstrate positive and professional attitude toward job assignments and tasks to be performed Demonstrate personal initiative and effective use of City resources to provide excellent service to the public Perform other duties as apparent or assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIREDAbility to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area Demonstrates skill in operating diagnostic and test equipment to determine the nature of equipment malfunction Demonstrates ability to operate various types of light and heavy equipment Proactively identifies problems and makes recommendations for solutions Demonstrates thorough knowledge of safe working conditions Demonstrates ability to work effectively with other departments and divisions Demonstrates ability to develop ideas, and, when authorized, to implement change Demonstrates comprehension of new and emerging technologies and applies this knowledge to repair procedures Skill in the use of electric tools, pneumatic tools, basic hand tools, and computerized testing equipment Skill in the use of soldering, welding, and torching equipment including being able to select the correct thickness and types of materials Demonstrates good detail orientation and logical thinking with organizational and prioritization skills Organizes work efficiently and effectively; ability to handle multiple tasks and adapts to frequently changing work demands Works different shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
