GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Sports Coordinator will be responsible to plan, organize and direct all sports programs and projects associated with the Recreation Center. This position will oversee special programs and all indoor/outdoor sports leagues offered by the Bolivar Recreation Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May perform general oversight duties of all areas of the Recreation Center and sports locations, including opening, closing and sanitizing procedures; supervises staff.
Plans, organizes and directs all aspects of the various sports programs and services provided, including sports leagues and special events/programs, including supervision of staff.
Plans and organizes baseball/softball tournaments (outside of the Rec League)
Maintains effective work relationships with members, associates, outside agencies, and the general public.
Responsible for implementing policies and procedures.
Delivers presentations to general public and outside organizations, plus oversees the development and dissemination of publications to promote programs.
Travels to various recreation facility locations in the city.
Enforces sports and recreation facility emergency plan procedures.
Completes accident reports on all incidences that occur at assigned facilities.
Performs other tasks and related work as necessary.

IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS

Attends seminars, workshops and other training for professional development.
Utilizes computer software applications such as but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, and/or databases.
Subject to work varied hours as needed, including days, evenings and weekends.
Ensures staff has all necessary equipment.
Utilize Civic Rec platform and processes.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL ALERTNESS REQUIREMENTS

Ability to remain mentally or physically alert to be able to safely and competently perform the duties of the position
Ability to take prompt and appropriate response to operating conditions

Ability to quickly store and recall instructions in one’s short-term memory
Ability to concentrate
Ability to cope with sudden changes in surrounding and/or emergency situations and/or alarms
Demonstrate caring, committed and concerned attitude about safety

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING

Bachelors or Associates degree in Health & Fitness, Recreation, Physical Education, Event Management or a closely related area AND 2 years’ experience in specific Recreation and Parks systems preferred.

Minimum 2 years of work experience in Parks and Recreation programs.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Valid Missouri Driver's License and must remain insurable under the City's liability insurance policy.
Current CPR certification; First Aid and AED certifications may be required.
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) is desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequent walking, bending, reaching, kneeling and twisting.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.
Hold and grip objects.
Occasional periods of sitting in a vehicle or at a desk.
Must be able to observe recreation programs for evaluation purposes and to identify facility and operational concerns.
Sports programs are primarily outdoors and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions when traveling to facilities or attending outdoor events.
