City Of Brooklyn Park is Hiring a Development Project Coordinator - Community Development Department Near Brooklyn, MN

The Development Project Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing complex housing and redevelopment policies, projects and programs.
 
The Coordinator must coordinate with all City departments, generate new ideas and programs, and demonstrate the viability of these ideas to carry out the housing and redevelopment goals and objectives of the City Council.
Examples of projects include: establishment of Brooklyn Park Bio District, Safe Schools initiative and management of EDA owned properties.
  • Provide leadership and project management to housing and redevelopment programs. Develop and implement strategic initiatives to address housing and redevelopment problems.
  • Prepare and provide information and reports to supervisor, boards, commissions, civic groups, general public, EDA and Council.
  • Interact/negotiate with other government units including the State of MN, Hennepin County, Minnesota Housing, Met Council, and HUD.
  • Facilitate and/or participate in organizational development teams and events, internal meetings to support a high performing organization, and external meetings to support the City’s community engagement work.
  • Prepare, write and administer grant funds.
  • Respond to public, developer, and government agency questions related to housing, redevelopment, and economic development projects, programs and policies.
  • Assist with development of short and long-term division plans, policies, procedures and priorities.
  • Job duties as assigned or apparent.
Education
Bachelor's degree in urban studies, housing, public administration or other related field
Experience
Three (3) years of experience in the field of redevelopment, housing and/or economic development
Licenses/Certifications
Valid driver's license
Equivalency
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered

  • Proven attention to detail and effective written and oral communication skills 
  • Proven ability and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive workplace related to racial equity, diversity and inclusion

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in a similar setting (local municipality EDA and/or large nonprofit housing developer)
  • Master's degree in urban studies, housing, public administration or other related field
  • National Development Council Housing Development Finance Professional certification
  • National Development Council Economic Development Finance Professional certification
  • Experience in project or program development
  • Experience leading small developers through the development finance process
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds
  • Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Laotian or Vietnamese language(s)

Anticipated Work Schedule: Position is an exempt, full-time, benefited, non-union position that will work a flexible schedule that includes a standard eight-hour work day, Monday-Friday. Occasional evening hours may be required.
