General Definition of Work

Performs work responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing wastewater treatment plant and lift station equipment for the City of Cape Girardeau.

Essential Functions

● Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment; rebuild equipment, including gearboxes and electrical motors at the wastewater treatment facility and lift stations.

● Reads and interprets complex information manuals, diagrams and schematics to perform maintenance, repair and replacement activities for plant equipment, electronics and facilities.

● Maintains and repairs lift stations; cleans rag screening equipment, black-flush pumps and removes grease from wet wells.

● Troubleshoots and repairs electrical malfunctions using voltage meter, resistance measurement device, continuity meter and amp meter; installs new electrical services.

● Performs biosolids testing; treats biosolids to ensure compliance with EPA 503 regulations; transports biosolids.

● Works non-standard hours as required

● Responds to emergency call out situations as required.

● Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

● High school diploma or equivalency required and three (3) years related experience in equipment repair and maintenance.

● Must possess or obtain within two (2) years of the first day of employment a Missouri Class “D” wastewater license.

● Must possess a Missouri Class “E” CDL license. Must possess and maintain a valid Class “A” CDL license with tanker endorsement.

Salary per hour $19.89, plus a generous benefit package.

• Bi-weekly pay periods.
• Twelve paid holidays per year.
• 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
• 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
• 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
• City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
• City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
• Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
• Optional vision insurance purchased at employee’s expense.
• Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

• Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $29.46 hourly/$61,272 yearly.
