Code Enforcement Supervisor (Salary: $65,000 Annually; DOQ)
Supervises the City's property maintenance and zoning inspection program of property for compliance with City codes, regulations, and laws.
Examples of Duties

  • Supervises the inspections of property to ensure compliance with City code regulations pertaining to property maintenance and zoning; supervises part-time Code Enforcement Inspectors.
  • Conducts routine property maintenance inspections in designated zone.
  • Performs inspections for zoning compliance and conditions of approval for the City.
  • Issues written warnings and notices of violations as necessary on behalf of the Zoning Administrator. Prepares written correspondence for property maintenance and zoning matters, as assigned.
  • Manages enforcement contracts and ensures vendors fulfil duties as approved by the City, and ensures renewal of contract to avoid a lapse of service, as assigned.
  • Investigates and collects information on reports of potential violations regarding property maintenance and zoning regulations.
  • Prepares reports on property maintenance and zoning matters, as assigned.
  • Assists with the review and enforcement of zoning permits, as assigned.
  • Reports suspected violations of the Uniform Statewide Building Code to the Building Official for evaluation.
  • Maintains records of inspections and enforces corrective actions to include nuisance abatement and/or court action.
  • Addresses public and professional inquiries.
  • Other duties as required.
Education & Experience

  • Two years of college or Associate's Degree and three to five years directly related experience; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree and two to three years directly related experience; or
  • A Master's Degree with at least one year of directly related experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Certified Zoning Official (CZO) or Certified Zoning Administrator (CZA) designations by the Virginia Association of Zoning Officials are desirable.
  • Property Maintenance Inspector Certification by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
The work requires physical exertion such as walking over rough or difficult terrain; recurring standing, stooping, climbing or walking; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing between 25 and 50 pounds. The work may require specific physical characteristics and abilities such as heightened strength, mobility, and dexterity.
The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions.
