TYPICAL WORK SHIFT/SCHEDULE: Days, Monday - Friday, Overtime is a requirement.
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $23.66-$29.22 Hourly DOE, $35.62 top of scale.

JOB SUMMARY
: Works independently performing skilled technical work involving the operation and maintenance of assigned wastewater treatment plant and recording of related data.

Examples of Duties

Performs inspections of equipment, tanks, and processes to ensure proper and safe operation: checks for proper equipment lubrication; records pressure gauge readings, flow rates, tank levels, sludge blanket depths, and chlorine residual concentrations; adjusts equipment operation as necessary to meet established operational objectives; removes faulty equipment from service and places standby equipment in duty.
Operates PLC controlled sludge thickening, dewatering and stabilization processes including all appurtenant equipment, and maintains all required logs. Operation of processes entails computation of loading parameters and chemical dosage requirements, and controlling the process to maintain compliance with associated State and Federal regulations.
Collects samples from treatment processes and performs required analytical tests including but not limited to: total suspended solids, total solids, pH, chlorine residual, ORP, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and biochemical oxygen demand.
Receives deliveries of chemicals, wastewater sludge, industrial wastewaters, septage leachate and RV waste, and ensures compliance with all established procedures and permits. Records necessary data concerning all deliveries, and ensures that all delivery records are filed appropriately.
Performs volumetric calibration tests on chemical and sludge pumping equipment and process flow meters.
Utilizes a PC to enter process and effluent monitoring data into appropriate electronic files.
Makes complete, accurate and legible entries into daily work logs.
Assists in the performance of preventive and repair maintenance on facility equipment.
Assists in general building and grounds maintenance work including routine custodial duties, mowing lawns, snow removal and cleaning of process tanks.
On a rotating basis, serves as the primary responder during nights, weekends, and holidays to emergencies at two wastewater treatment plants and associated pumping stations. Assesses needs and calls appropriate staff for assistance as necessary. Must be able to respond to the wastewater facilities for emergencies within 45 minutes of notification.
Understands and follows safe work practices and procedures as developed by the Department, and reports any unsafe conditions to immediate supervisor.
May participate in training of employees and peers in areas of assigned responsibility.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Overtime is required.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED; and, one year certificate in wastewater treatment from technical school; and, one year of experience in wastewater treatment plant; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
Current Grade 1 or 1 OIT State of New Hampshire Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator's License.
Valid New Hampshire Driver's License

While performing essential functions of this job, employee is occasionally expected to lift and/or move up to 55 pounds, and maneuver chemical containers weighing up to 2400 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required for this job include: close vision, distance vision, ability to discriminate between colors, depth vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:
While performing essential functions of this position, employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
While performing essential functions of this position, employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
Incumbent's working conditions are typically loud.
