City of Concord is Hiring a Deputy Transportation Director Near Concord, NC

The purpose of this position is to assist with directing the operations, activities and staff of the Transportation department.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provides general oversight of planning, expenditures, direction, and management of operations by monitoring and evaluating efficiency and effectiveness of service, delivery methods, and procedures, assessing workload of divisions and administrative functions, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, coordinating personnel actions, ensuring adequate staff training and adherence to policies and procedures, overseeing the maintenance of employee records and files, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Provides administrative support in the planning, designing, and construction of transportation projects and preparing, coordinating, and maintaining contracts, reports, files, schedules, and logs.
  • Performs technical studies and evaluations and provides solutions to transportation and traffic problems in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations. Develops and implements plans for emergency operations and special events.
  • Participates in and provides technical assistance in compliance reviews of site plans and developments in transportation related matters. Participates in regional transportation planning as the lead agency of the metropolitan planning organization.
  • Prepares annual department budgets, coordinates with Finance department staff on preparation of capital improvement projects and grant funding requests, creates expenditure and revenue forecasts, monitors and approves expenditures, and prepares grant applications.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • Position in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, vision, foot controls, bending, hearing, twisting, talking.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, physical hazards.

Required ExperienceBachelor's degree in Engineering, Management or like field from an accredited college or university, at least five (5) years of relevant and supervisory experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
