City of Concord is Hiring a Fleet Mechanic Near Concord, NC

The purpose of this position is to perform routine mechanical work and inspections on a variety of equipment and vehicles.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains vehicles and construction equipment by operating computer diagnostic software, scanners, meters, pneumatic and hand tools, interpreting schematics, using repair manuals and software, and performing minor fabrication and welding.
  • Performs North Carolina state safety and emissions inspections and federal department of transportation inspections.
  • Operates the fleet management applet for technicians and enters repair types, time, notes, and work orders.
  • Performs cleaning and general maintenance of shop area, materials, tools, and equipment.
Supplemental Functions
  • Performs other similar duties as required.
KnowledgeJob Specifications and Qualifications:
  • Fleet parts and equipment
  • Diagnostic and repair methods of fleet vehicles and equipment
  • Fleet repair tools and materials
Licensing And Certifications
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License;
  • Class B CDL preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months of hire. Failure to obtain may result in termination;
  • Automotive Service Excellence Master Mechanic Certification;
  • Ability to obtain North Carolina State Inspector’s License within six (6) months of hire. Failure to obtain may result in termination.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
  • Very Heavy: Exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50 - 100 pounds frequently, or from 20 up to 50 pounds constantly.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, physical hazards.
Required Skills
  • Using mechanical repair tools;
  • Reading diagrams and sketches for repair work;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Required ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalency and at least six-months of advanced study, with at least one (1) year of experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
