The purpose of this position is to assist the assigned department with projects by operating different types of equipment and maintenance.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Transports, sets up, and operates equipment such as front-end loader, knuckle boom, roll off truck, rear loader, dump truck, etc. to perform daily routes to collect waste or clean up debris.
- Performs inspection or preoperational checklist on all equipment and determines and/or conducts preventative maintenance and cleaning.
- Generates and completes all assigned work orders and documents daily work activities.
- Provides information to customers as requested.
- Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work, ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment in the absence of a Solid Waste Crew Supervisor.
- Performs other similar duties as required.
- Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (Class A, Truck with Trailer)
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
- Very Heavy: Exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50 - 100 pounds frequently, or from 20 up to 50 pounds constantly.
- Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, physical hazards.
- Reading and interpreting data;
- Operating a computer and applicable software applications;
- Applying customer service principles;
- Operating equipment and tools;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
