Job Summary Job Description Overview The Psychologist performs professional level counseling, psychological testing, evaluation, and screening, and ensures DFR personnel are mentally stable to perform work. In addition, performs and conducts pre-employment diagnostic evaluations of uniformed applicants to determine psychological stability; administers various psychological instruments and conducts extensive interviews with candidates. Essential Functions Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the American and Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. 1 Provides counseling to individuals, couples, and families. 2 Develops and maintains fire service and public safety cultural competence. 3 Provides feedback and policy recommendations to senior staff to address employee psychological well-being and needs. 4 Performs preemployment psychological evaluations of recruit applicants and existing workforce. 5 Teaches basic courses to recruits and facilitates psychoeducational trainings for Department employees. 6 Facilitates debriefings after critical incidents. 7 When necessary, coordinates a higher level of care for individuals requiring more intensive services. 8 Testifies in court as an expert witness, as needed. 9 Maintains an advanced understanding of local mental and behavioral resources and professional contacts who can arrange for assessment and treatment outside the scope of DFR Psychologist duties. 10 Provides clinical oversight of the DFR Care Network and serves as a mental health consultant to Department leadership. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. 1 Ability to develop knowledge of city practice, policy, procedures, statutes, and ordinances. 2 Skill in oral and written communication 3 Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing 4 Skill in using computers and related software applications. 5 Skill in data analysis and problem solving. 6 Skill in planning and organizing. 7 Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities. 8 Ability to thrive independently as well as part of a team. 9 Ability to recognize and analyze irregular events. 10 Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with city. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) OR Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) OR Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from an accredited college or university EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of post-doctoral experience in counseling and conducting evaluations. LICENSES: Valid driver’s license with good driving record. Must have or be able to obtain a license from the Texas State Board of Psychological Examiners within six (6) months from appointment. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass an intensive background check No FELONY or Class A MISDEMEANOR convictions. No Class B MISDEMEANOR convictions within the last ten (10) years. No family violence convictions. Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any FELONY, Class A or Class B MISDEMEANOR. Salary Range $45.15 - $56.44 The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
