City of Dayton is Hiring a Claims Specialist Near Dayton, OH

Responsibilities

This is a multi-incumbent position. Incumbents may specialize in a variety of areas including but not limited to, benefits administration, compensation, worker's compensation administration, EEO investigation and compliance or employee safety. Incumbents should have a thorough knowledge and understanding of government regulations impacting human resources management such as: ADA, FMLA, FLSA, OSHA, Equal Employment Opportunity legislation and drug and alcohol testing. He/she must be able to assimilate and apply new information in the field of HR and to stay current on the appropriate body of knowledge required to properly provide HR services to the City. Incumbents will be assigned the more complex and difficult work assignments including working with department leaders on such issues as posting executive and mid-management, positions, reviewing resumes and developing interview panels
While the incumbent acts as an advisor to others in their specialty area, they are expected to develop a working knowledge in each of the other specialty areas. This will enable each incumbent to act as a human resources generalist. The Claims Specialist will be responsible for providing training to the organization in their area of specialty during the annual Supervisor's Tool Box Training sessions. Each incumbent is expected to be a subject matter expert on their assigned area of concentration to provide their knowledge and expertise to the organization. The incumbent may have the responsibility of monitoring Kronos for injury workers and leave.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business administration, Human Resources Administration, Organizational Management or other closely related field AND 5 years of experience in one of the following areas compensation, classification, employee relations, worker's compensation, organizational development or benefits administration.
OR
A minimum of 2 years previous experience as a Benefit Associate II with the City of Dayton in the area of compensation, classification, employee relation, worker's compensation, organizational development or benefits administration.
Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities or equivalent region.
License Requirements

Must have a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain as a condition of employment.
Special Requirements
Evidence of the following Human Resources Certifications is desired but not required; PHR, SPHR, CHRS, CMA, CEBS, CWCP, or SHRM - CP, SHRM SCP (or equivalent professional certification).

Background Check

A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
