As the Multimodal Coordinator for the City of Durango, you will be responsible for assisting and coordinating capital project planning and maintaining a multimodal network that includes public transit, pedestrian, and bicycle facilities. This role allows you to contribute to a connected, safe, and sustainable community through the coordination, planning, and maintenance of multimodal facilities. Your responsibilities will include budgeting for maintenance, conducting public outreach, applying for grants, managing assets and facilities, and participating in both long- and short-term transportation planning.
In this position, you will work closely with the Multimodal Manager to support the successful implementation of transportation projects and programs while fostering collaboration with other City departments, outside organizations, and residents.What You’ll Do in This Role:
- Implement and assist with updating the City’s Multimodal Transportation Plan.
- Conduct transportation planning review, research, analysis, and data collection.
- Create and maintain an inventory of multimodal roadway assets and a scheduled maintenance plan, working with City divisions and contractors to ensure the accessibility and safety of the network.
- Conduct snow removal, maintain cycling facilities, and manage signage and striping implementation related to multimodal facilities.
- Purchase materials for maintenance and improvements, and coordinate installation of those materials.
- Identify and pursue federal, state, and local funding opportunities for multimodal projects.
- Participate in the development of city-wide plans, including the Sustainability Action Plan and Comprehensive Plan.
- Collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, CDOT, City departments, the public, and other organizations.
- Develop project timelines, budgets, and annual work programs.
- Purchase materials for maintenance and improvement contracts and coordinate their installation.
- Conduct public outreach and engagement for multimodal projects, including running public meetings and developing outreach materials and strategies to inform the community.
- Prepare press releases, legal notices, and communication materials such as maps, guides, handouts, and website content.
- Assist in preparing for City Council meetings, including document review and occasional presentations.
- Coordinate with other City departments and external organizations.
- Respond to public inquiries and concerns.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Three years of increasingly responsible experience in planning, sustainable transportation, construction, maintenance, or a related field.
- Two years of administrative experience .
- Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for transportation and accessibility, traffic control, and basic landscaping principles and practices.
- Ability to read maps and engineering plans.
- Skill in operating power tools, hand tools, snowblowers, utility trucks, snowplows, and light construction equipment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.
