City of Elgin, IL is Hiring a Part Time Preschool Head Instructor Near Elgin, IL

CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION

Responsible for lesson planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising a variety of activities for preschool-aged children in our Spanish Enrichment Program. These activities include arts and crafts, music, movement, letters, numbers, free play, and foundational pre-kindergarten skills to prepare children for formal schooling. Basic Spanish vocabulary should be seamlessly integrated into the class structure to build a foundation in the Spanish language. This position reports directly to the Early Childhood Supervisor.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

  • Work in accordance with established City of Elgin Parks and Recreation Department policies, emergency procedures, and safety guidelines, and represent the City of Elgin in a positive, professional manner.
  • Work cooperatively with Assistant Instructor and/or Preschool Aide in supervising preschool children and implement lesson plans and activities.
  • Implement and prepare lesson plans with age-appropriate activities, keep accurate attendance records, and prepare a monthly classroom calendar.
  • Review and maintain weekly lesson plans and monthly calendar with Assistant Instructor.
  • Ensure that the classroom is maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Follow all safety procedures as provided by the City of Elgin and provide a safe environment for the children. Complete and submit accident/incident report forms within 24 hours.
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of all information received in connection with this position.
  • Maintain a good public image and serve as a role model to the children.
  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of class to prepare.
  • Assist in record keeping and keep attendance information current.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, team members, and City of Elgin staff.
  • Ability to react quickly in emergency situations and use good judgment under stress.
  • Obtains certification to transport children to field trip in a City of Elgin vehicle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Spanish required.
  • Certified in AED adult/child and infant CPR or obtained certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Early Childhood degree or certification preferred and/or a minimum of 2 years of classroom experience related directly to Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of experience in planning and implementing programs for children 2-5 years or conducting children’s program.
  • Possess good communication skills and the ability to use good judgment under stress.
  • Maintain patience, flexibility, and the ability to cope with demands of working with young children.
  • Must be able to work independently with children to achieve program goals.
  • Reliable person with good work ethics.
  • A pleasant and enthusiastic demeanor a must.
  • Posses a valid Illinois Driver’s license.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hours: Approximately 15-20 hours per week. Will vary according to the classroom you are assigned.
