The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Senior Fleet Technician to perform skilled tasks in the service, repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive, construction, and specialized equipment; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform skilled mechanical duties involving repair and maintenance of gasoline, propane and diesel powered automotive vehicles, medium and heavy construction equipment, trailers, trucks and other specialized power driven equipment (dump trucks, solid waste collection units, leaf vacuums and construction equipment).
- Inspect, diagnose and locate mechanical difficulties on medium and heavy trucks, construction equipment and trailers.
- Overhaul fabricate and service assemblies and accessories, such as hydraulic, compressed air, vacuum and electrical controls, systems and components.
- Diagnose, maintain and repair electrical systems components, ignition systems, computers, alternators, starters, heating and air conditioning and batteries; diagnose, maintain, repair and recondition air driven and hydraulic systems; identify, repair and replace defective wiring.
- Diagnose and repair front and rear drive axles, drive train components, belts, gears, chain drives and propeller shafts; replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms, and related parts and equipment.
- Overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials, and clutches; tune up engines by replacing ignition parts and reconditioning and adjusting carburetors, throttle body and port fuel injection systems. diesel and gasoline fuel systems.
- Repair and replace components including, distributors, relays, lights, switches; repair, adjust and replace brake systems including wheel cylinders, master cylinders, disc pads, machine drums and rotors, hydraulic and air brakes, hydraulic cylinders and pumps.
- Retrieve, collect and distribute vehicle parts; perform on-site service calls as requested, perform repairs in the field.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repair work to light, medium, and heavy equipment.
- Prepare and maintain records of fleet and equipment maintenance and repair activities performed,
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Four years of journey level experience performing minor and major equipment repair duties including experience in the maintenance of gasoline and/or diesel powered equipment (medium and heavy vehicles, trucks, trailers and equipment).
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in maintenance and repair of gas, diesel and other types of fuel powered equipment.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.; possession of, or ability to obtain within six months a North Carolina State Vehicle Safety & OBDII Emissions Inspector’s license.
609 certification required within 90 days of hiring.
Preferred:
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications in Automobile & Light Truck or Medium-Heavy Truck, Forklift certification, Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification.
