A RESUME WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IN DETERMINING YOUR QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION.The City of Fayetteville is seeking a Human Relations Specialist to perform a variety of support duties related to the operations and activities of the Human Relations department to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all persons; to investigate complaints filed under various anti-discrimination laws and acts, including housing discrimination and mediation of unfair labor practices and public accommodation complaints; to coordinate assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Diversity Equity & Inclusion Director. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Interview complainants; investigate complaints and make recommendations for action; meet with Diversity Equity & Inclusion Director to discuss cases and recommended action. Perform research and gather information regarding complaints received; meet with various parties to discuss and act on complaints; coordinate activities with a variety of outside agencies including state and federal agencies. Represent the Diversity Equity & Inclusion department to other City departments, commissions and boards and outside agencies; explain Human Relations department programs, policies, and activities; negotiate and resolve sensitive, significant and controversial issues. Develop training modules for pilot education and technical assistance programs; present educational programs to various outside groups and agencies; prepare and present presentations on civil rights legislation, and other laws and legislation pertaining to the Human Relations department, Commission and Fair Housing Board.Provide staff assistance to the Human Relations Commission and the Fair Housing Board; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.Serve as conciliator / mediator for various complaints, allegations and disagreements within the community; serve as facilitator for dispute resolutions.Prepare activity reports for the Department, Commission and Board; provide reports and relevant information to the Diversity Equity & Inclusion Director, Commission and Board.Provide professional advice and direction to the Commission & Board relevant to assigned area; carry out staff assignments; prepare agendas and give staff reports.Perform public relations functions for assigned area; make presentations to organizations, agencies, and the general public.Conduct and coordinate training seminars and workshops for city employees on anti-discrimination issues.Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive employee and resident inquiries and complaints.For a complete job description, click here.
