City of Fishers is Hiring a Paralegal Near IN, IN

The City of Fishers is seeking a full-time Paralegal. This role will provide support to the Corporation Counsel and Fishers Law Department on a variety of administrative functions, including some litigation matters. The legal division of the Mayor's Office works diligently with other City departments and stakeholders, including City Court, to uphold municipal law and protect the City from legal challenges.
  • Draft pleadings and file documents using online court filing for eminent domain matters, collections, small claims and other litigation matters
  • Prepare, proofread, and fact-check documents for court filings and assist with filing and service
  • Real property research with the Hamilton County Recorder’s Office
  • File deeds, easements and liens with Hamilton County Recorder’s Office
  • Assist in responding to public records requests
  • Draft and edit legal correspondence
  • Case Management for City Court: coordinate court calendar, police officers and attorneys
  • Prepare subpoenas for witnesses for trial
  • Review applications for City Deferral Program and determine if applicant meets the eligibility requirements; corresponding with the applicants; input and maintaining data in system; maintain filing system and records
  • Assist in preparation of pleadings for City Deferral Program
  • Draft and edit contracts, agreements, pleadings, letters, and other correspondence as needed
  • Receive and resolve or refer complaints from clients
  • Prepare and post notices in compliance with Open Door Laws
  • Proofread, format, copy, scan, and fax various documents
  • Maintain Department calendar
  • Represent the Legal Department as first point of contact
  • Communicate effectively with all staff, directors, outside counsel, opposing counsel and members of the public
  • Associate degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience in the legal field; Bachelor's degree, paralegal certification, or 5 years of relevant experience in the legal field preferred;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work discreetly with sensitive information;
  • Knowledge of court procedure and policies, state statutes, municipal ordinances and court interpretation;
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology and research procedures;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to perform tasks with independent judgment;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public;
  • Ability to work with City technology at a high level including but not limited to Sharepoint, Microsoft Office, Odyssey, and Tyler host.
  • This role is a full-time role eligible for benefits.
  • Hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday (35 hour work week). This is a non-exempt role eligible for overtime when available based on business needs.
