$70,720 to $99,320 is the pay range for Fort Lupton Sworn Police officers, and offering up to a $10,000 hiring bonus for qualified police officers, with additional details below. The City of Fort Lupton is looking for qualified Police Officers to join our ranks. Whether you have recently completed law enforcement academy or have experience, please consider us.We have recently increased the rate of pay for our openings and can now offer higher pay for lateral transfers. Our starting pay for officers is as follows:

• P.O.S.T. certified with less than 2 years of experience $70,720
• After completion of one year Initial Performance Review Period with the City of Fort Lupton - $76,440 per year
• Lateral Transfer with 2-3 years of experience – $82,160 per year
• Lateral Transfer with 4-6 years of experience - $87,880 per year
• Maximum pay - $99,320per year

 
Starting salary is calculated based on total completed years of law enforcement experience in accordance with established service credit policy.

Colorado Police Officers with two years or more of consecutive law enforcement experience may qualify for a $10,000 hiring bonus.

• Experience requirement excludes training and field training time.
• Experience must be served with one law enforcement agency.
• Only patrol experience counts towards the two year requirement.
• Must be in good standing with the law enforcement agency (termination or significant discipline may disqualify applicants for the $10,000 bonus).

 
Colorado Police Officers with less than two years consecutive law enforcement experience may qualify for a $5,000 hiring bonus.

• Must be in good standing with the law enforcement agency, if currently or previously employed by a law enforcement agency.
• Termination or significant discipline from most recent law enforcement employer, if applicable, may disqualify applicants for the $5,000 bonus.

 
Applicants who are currently in a POST academy, or graduated within six months prior to applying, may also qualify for up to $5000 tuition reimbursement, subject to a two year employment contract, in addition to the hiring bonus.
 
The hiring bonus is paid in two installments. The first half of the bonus is paid upon completion of initial training (including field training). The second half is paid upon completion of the initial performance period.

Under specified supervision, performs a variety of public safety functions to serve and protect the community and to provide for the enforcement of federal, state and municipal law.The following duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.

• Provides a variety of law enforcement services including patrolling streets and other public places on an assigned shift.
• Performs activities associated with investigations and crime prevention; writes detailed police reports and collects physical evidence.
• Assists with filling cases.
• Testifies in court proceedings as required.
• Provides information, assistance or directions to the public.
• Emphasizes community policing through public meetings and speaking directly with citizens.
• Performs a variety of public relations and public education duties.
• Intervenes in disputes, apprehends suspects, makes arrests, issues citations, identifies witnesses, conducts preliminary investigations, and re-establishes law and order at the scene.Interviews and/or counsels involved parties such as witnesses, suspects, students, victims and parents.Prepares documentation of activities performed and information gathered.Follows up on cases.Protects and preserves crime scenes.
• Responds to calls for assistance, including assaults, fights, domestic disturbances, thefts, traffic accidents and traffic control, and other criminal or civil complaints; transports prisoners to detention facilities and court as necessary.
• Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Responsible for safety of self, others, materials and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment.
• Interacts with other jurisdictions, law enforcement agencies and courts of law.
• Researches and completes special projects, such as policy and municipal ordinance development.
• Works a varying schedule and/or shift.
• May photograph and/or sketch crime scenes and accidents.
• May serve in the public schools as a School Resource Officer.May serve as a member of traffic and community problem solving team, SWAT team, and/or technical accident investigator team.May serve as a field-training officer, acting field supervisor, or police-training instructor.
• Represents the department in community events, meetings and programs. Attends professional organization meetings as assigned by supervisor or the Chief of Police.

• Working knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment, applicable laws and ordinances.
• Ability to recognize and analyze a variety of police concerns and make recommendations.
• Knowledge of and ability to enforce the Constitutional rights, Colorado Revised Statutes, Fort Lupton Municipal Code, and Model Traffic Code.
• Knowledge of pursuit driving skills and arrest control procedures.
• Ability to qualify quarterly for firearms proficiency.
• Working knowledge of computers with the ability to write correspondence that conforms to a prescribed style and format.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, various agencies and general public.
• Working knowledge of computers and the ability to learn and utilize software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, databases and other current technology.
• Knowledge and ability to enforce law enforcement principles, practices and techniques of patrol, investigation, surveillance, court procedures, community relations, weapon use, traffic control, report preparation, and custody of persons and property.
• Ability to research, develop and lead formal and informal presentations and discussions with diverse groups.
• Knowledge of safety hazards, blood borne pathogen regulations and universal safety precautions sufficient to be able to protect oneself and others from possible infection and maintain a safe working environment.
• Knowledge of the methods of basic first aid sufficient to be able to render assistance until medical personnel arrive.
• Skill in conducting searches of persons and facilities for contraband.
• Skill in reacting calmly and effectively in emergency or stressful situations.

Disqualifiers

The following is not an all inclusive list that may disqualify you from being a Fort Lupton Police Officer. Other standards may make you subject to disqualification.

• Conviction of a felony
• Conviction of any crime involving domestic violence
• Use of marijuana in past year (preferred)*
• Use of illegal drugs in past 5 years*
• Conviction of any alcohol, controlled substances, drugs or other illegal substance related driving offense within the past 5 years
• Arrest, conviction of, or deferred prosecution or deferred judgments for reckless driving within 5 years
• Release or discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States under dishonorable conditions
• Any history of Brady violations

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to balance, sit, stand, reach, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, demonstrate manual dexterity, grasp, talk, hear and see. The employee sometimes is required to run, push, pull, twist, lift and restrain combative suspects. The employee is required to stay alert during prolonged periods of stationary or repeated activity, and to remain calm during stressful and possibly life-threatening situations. Information dealt with may be graphic and upsetting.

Environment exposure to outside elements, with walking, running and driving in inclement weather. Exposure to extreme temperatures, irritant gasses, vibration, heights, confined spaces and emergency driving. Unconventional work hours, including call-outs, nights, weekends and holidays.
