We are a full-service city comprised of nine departments, that include our own city staffed Fire and Police departments. Additionally, the city oversees a general aviation airport, a library, and a variety of recreational buildings, facilities, and activities. The Department:

The Fullerton Public Works Department provides the public infrastructure, both facilities and maintenance services, essential to the City to ensure public health, safety, and the general welfare of our residents.

Public Works manages the City’s major assets and infrastructure such as the streets, buildings, parks, and other public facilities in a cohesive and integrated effort from design, construction, and to ongoing maintenance services on City projects to the standards set forth by the City Council. We strive to create projects and programs that maximize return on your tax dollar investment in its infrastructure at 30-, 50-, and 100-year horizons.

This section provides on-going services for street/sidewalk repairs and cleaning; landscape maintenance for medians, parks and City trees, building services, fleet management, water system repairs and maintenance, and sewer operations.
The Position:
Under general supervision schedules, coordinates and supervises workers and work crews performing landscape maintenance duties for City parks, grounds, parkways, recreational trails, medians, street trees, irrigation systems, recreational facilities and other City property; assists in developing division objectives and work plans; evaluates work performance; oversees city-wide tree maintenance and tree-related projects and performs related work as required.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications is:
Associates Degree from an accredited community college or completion of two years of study towards a Bachelors Degree at an accredited college or university in business administration, public administration, landscape architecture, horticulture, or a related field.
AND
Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in landscape development and maintenance, to include some landscape pest control experience and two years of lead or supervisory experience.
The following are highly desirable:
  • Certification by the International Society of Arboriculture within twelve months of employment
  • Backflow Device Certificate issued by the County of Orange
  • Pest Control Advisors License and Qualified Applicator Certificate issued by the State of California
Special Requirements Include:
  • Valid class C California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Pull Notice Program.
  • Must be able to work flexible and extended hours to accommodate City needs and be available to respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • California Government Code §3100 – 3109 requires that all public employees are to be declared disaster service workers and shall take and subscribe to the related oath or affirmation as required.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
Applicants must be specific and complete in describing qualifications for the position. 
BASED UPON THE INFORMATION PRESENTED ON THE APPLICATION MATERIALS, Applicants possessing the most suitable qualifications will be invited to a written examination, performance examination, oral interview and/or other assessment instrument.

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Landscape Supervisor I will be placed on an eligible list for the respective classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.

All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees appointed to safety sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.

All appointees will serve a 6-month probationary period.
