Performs manual labor associated with the maintenance and repair of City streets and right of ways; Performs a variety of tasks including raking leaves, cleaning litter, mowing grass, construction labor and other assigned duties.
Cuts grass by operating a riding lawn mower, power push mower and weed eater.
Cleans streets by cutting back brush, removing debris from drains and collecting litter.
Performs or assist with any of the following: trims hedges; rakes leaves; plants grass; cuts down dead trees; clears storm drains; edges sidewalks; plants shrubs; and collects trash and litter.
Operates a variety of hand and power tools to clear and maintain utility easements and right-of-ways. Tools include shovel, axe, sling blade, bush axe, weed eater etc.
Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment.
Shovels asphalt from asphalt pile or from dump truck, levels hole with a loop, and packs asphalt with a hand tamp or gas-powered tamp.
Assists with construction of sidewalks, curbs and gutters; levels construction area; builds forms; mixes cement; pours cement; levels cement using a bull float, hand float and/or trowel
Performs other related duties as required.
Employee subject to recall to duty in cases of emergency.
May be required to work overtime for non-emergency situations.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. desirable.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Valid Class B CDL Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). (required for Street Maintenance Worker III)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to operate a zero turn mower or right of way tractor.
Knowledge of department operations and procedures.
Skill in operating hand and power tools and small equipment used by department.
Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
Knowledge of mechanical repairs.
Knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques and practices.
Skill in operating machinery and using assorted hand tools.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Supplemental Information:
A new candidate may qualify to start as a Street Maintenance Worker II or III based on qualifications. If starting lower than a Street Maintenance Worker III, they can qualify for automatic promotion to Street Maintenance Worker II or III if the following conditions are met:
