JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for overseeing the coordination of maintenance and operations of parks and city facilities. This position reports to the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Director.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Performs inspections of parks, buildings and grounds; performs safety inspections of park playgrounds and surrounding play areas; performs safety inspections of city athletic fields, courts, trails, city buildings, office space, work areas, storage areas and public common areas. 
• Creates, plans and documents work orders, work plans, job assignments and preventive maintenance tasks; reviews and implements preventive maintenance practices; and assesses completed work. 
• Provides coaching, counseling, training and performance review for all subordinate employees. 
• Supervises the set up and preparation of special events. 
• Develops the annual budget for the division; makes recommendations of anticipated maintenance and improvements; recommends equipment needs; writes specifications for new purchases. 
• Prepares monthly program report for Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, and attends related meetings. 
• Works with government and civic groups, boards and commissions. 
• Develops long- and short-term plans and maintenance schedules. 
• Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment. 
• Performs other related duties, as assigned. 
• Must be available to work weekends and evenings, as needed.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: 

• Knowledge of the maintenance requirements for a variety of vehicles and equipment. 
• Knowledge of the HVAC system. 
• Knowledge of financial software. 
• Knowledge of accepted personnel practices, procedures and policies, including: supervision, training and performance evaluations. 
• Knowledge of specialized safety practices for playgrounds, chemical handling, biohazards and confined spaces. 
• Knowledge of workplace safety. 
• Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical techniques. 
• Skill in the operation of all parks and public works equipment. 
• Skill in oral and written communication.
