About the Position:The City of Grand Junction is accepting applications for a Irrigation Technician - Parks Equipment Operator. This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing parks maintenance team. The primary responsibilities of an Irrigation Technician is to our department and the maintenance of our 350 acres of developed parks, 111 acres of cemeteries, 55 acres of school grounds, and more than 598 acres of open space. This entry level position within the Parks Department and the Irrigation crew. As a landscape irrigation auditor, you will assist in managing our irrigation systems to ensure responsible management of our water resources. Our technicians conduct water audits, install and renovate irrigations systems, utilize water management technologies, and work on all aspects and sizes of water delivery systems. Training will be provided in basic irrigation knowledge and assistance in earning the required certifications. As the primary irrigation auditor, you will be required to become a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA). Position details include, but are not limited to:
Site inspections and data collection
Maintenance recommendations and performing of minor repairs
Perform field measurements and observations
Determine irrigation uniformity and efficiency
Develop basic irrigation schedules
Work with Irrigation Supervisor and Leads to manage overall irrigation water use
About Grand Junction Parks and Recreation Department:
The City of Grand Junction's Park Operations Division includes Cemeteries, Forestry, Horticulture, Open Space, Plant Health, River District, Sports Facilities, and Turf & Irrigation. We are responsible for the maintenance of 35 developed parks within the City. In addition to these developed parks, the Division also maintains the miles of trails, Las Colonias Amphitheater, Canyon View Regional Park, Lincoln Park Sports Complex, and open space natural areas across the City. This Division operates and maintains over 350 acres of developed parks, 285 acres of undeveloped parks, 55 acres of school properties, 37,000 public trees, 600 acres of open space, and 21 miles of riverfront and urban trails with 45 full time positions and over 60 seasonal staff members.

What You'll Do:- Operate a variety of equipment including dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors, groundskeeping equipment, snow removal equipment, power and hand tools, and other specialized maintenance and construction equipment; perform safety and maintenance inspections on assigned vehicle or equipment; perform routine vehicle and equipment repairs in the field.
- Inspect the condition of assigned systems, grounds, equipment, and facilities; perform installations, repairs, and replacements as necessary.
- Install, adjust, maintain and repair electrical timers, electronic and hydraulic valves, and controllers.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from customers and the general public; conduct general education classes related to assigned areas.
- Operate and maintain irrigation and sprinkler systems including pump stations, underground piping, valves, wiring, sprinklers, and controllers; check for broken lines, heads, and other parts; determine watering needs for assigned areas and establish watering schedules.
- Identify and prepare supplies and equipment needed for each assigned project.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports, and logs to ensure efficient watering at all conventional parks and horticultural areas.

This position is a safety sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drugscreens due to the nature of the work performed.What We're Looking For:- One (1) year of general labor experience and High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License.
- Ability to earn backflow certification within one (1) year.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. - Knowledge of basic irrigation system operation; this includes maintenance of a pump, filtration, valves, sprinkler heads, drip systems, and the operation of the irrigation controller.
- Knowledge of ornamental plants, turf, trees, and their correlating water needs.
- Knowledge of irrigation system repair and troubleshooting.
- Mainline and distribution line repair, valve, and sprinkler replacements.
- Knowledge of Horticultural irrigation systems; this includes point source irrigation and conventional sprinkler systems.
