City of Great Falls is Hiring a Maintenance Worker II Utilities Operator Near Great Falls, MT
Responsibility for providing semi-skilled to skilled construction, maintenance and repair of the city’s water, sanitary sewer, and storm drain systems. Work is performed under the general direction of the Utilities Foreman or other supervisory personnel.
Operates heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of water mains, sanitary sewers, storm drain systems, and fire hydrants.
Set up traffic control devices and equipment.
Operate trucks and other vehicles.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of experience in heavy equipment operation in utility work.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement.
Forklift certification within one year of hire.
Other special licensure or equipment certifications as required.

Substantial knowledge of the operation of heavy motorized maintenance equipment (backhoes, excavators, loaders, skid-steers, etc.) and various vehicles.
Experience digging around buried utilities with a backhoe and excavator.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
Substantial knowledge of the use of power and hand tools.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position does not supervise staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is exposed to cold, heat, noise, dust, vibration, and around moving traffic.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, reach, climb, push, pull, grasp, ride and perform similar body movements. Must have the ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 100 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate power tools, hand tools, motorized construction and maintenance equipment and a motor vehicle; the ability to talkand hear in person or by telephone or two-way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday. This position is a non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working.
TRAVEL Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
