Work Schedule:School Year: 2-6 pm and Teacher Workdays; Summer Camp: up to 40 hours per week (Ability to work as scheduled from August through June) This position is limited to a maximum of 1,000 hours in a 52-week calendar year and does not guarantee that the person hired for this position will work the maximum of 1,000 hours

We are currently seeking qualified candidates as an After School Counselor-Craft Recreation Center. Under the direct supervision of the Center Supervisor, the counselor is responsible for overall day-to-day group programming, along with direct supervision and management of the children in the Afterschool Program. Must be able to relate to school-age children (ages 5-12), and conduct age-appropriate organized activities.
Responsibilities and duties will include:
Exemplify the City of Greensboro’s Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Stewardship)
Assist children with homework
Supervises a group of approximately 15 children between the ages of 5-12
Facilitate both formal and informal play activities
Assist in creating daily and weekly schedules
Provides emergency response as per training when necessary
Collects data for daily reports and maintains program records and reports
Assist with set-up and breakdown of activities and cleaning of program area
Maintains positive and appropriate relations with children, parents, staff, etc.
Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, staff trainings, etc.
Provides exceptional customer service
Drive van for field trip outings
Assist the Recreation Center Supervisor where needed
The selected applicant must possess great communication skills to ensure the highest level of customer service, have knowledge of safe work practices, ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and have the ability to be trained in RecTrac (registration software). The physical requirements of the job include but are not limited to: walking, standing, sitting for extended times, jogging, running and jumping for the purposes of instructing/leading recreation programs, lifting up to 30lbs and operating assigned equipment and vehicles as needed. Must have reliable means of transportation.
The job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma / GED
Valid Driver's License and reliable means of transportation
Prior experience working with school-aged children
Current First Aid and CPR certification (“OR” ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
Prior computer experience using Word and Excel software programs
Ability to work as scheduled from August through June
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
Associate’s Degree or higher in education or a related field
Prior experience with recreation management software
