Work Schedule:Varies depending on the time of year, scheduled activities and availability. Work will be evenings and weekends (work will be mornings and/or evenings during the weekend). Must be available at least 3 weekdays and 2 weekends a month. During busy program seasons, additional availability may be needed.

Brief Description of Work:

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Athletics Field Supervisor. This position is an extension of the Athletics Section, and will serve as the front-line Athletic staff; working under the general direction and supervision of the Athletic Coordinators.

Responsibilities and duties required and assigned include: 

  • Exemplify the City of Greensboro’s Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, and Stewardship), and enforce Parks and Recreation athletic policies and procedures in correlation to various athletic facilities and sports. 
  • Assist in the preparation and set-up of fields and facilities for programs. 
  • Ensure participant eligibility based on official rosters provided by the league director. 
  • Maintain accurate accident/incident/injury reports, bat protests and ejection forms. 
  • Assist with crowd control and enforcement of City of Greensboro ordinances, as well as Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department policies. 
  • Implement good judgment, decision-making skills, and respond to inquiries about programs with appropriate and accurate information based on the rules and by-laws for various sports provided by the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Athletic Section. 
  • Respond to all emergency situations (medical, non-threatening, participant and spectators accident/incidents, etc.). 
  • Communicate maintenance, facility, or security concerns to supervisor. 
  • Keep accurate records of baseball, softball, kickball, football, and basketball games. This includes but is not limited to; scoring, time-outs, fouls, game time, balls and strikes, outs, innings, batting order, etc. 
  • Turn in paperwork and game results to designated supervisor. 
  • Conduct regular checks of athletic sites; before and during the program to ensure activities are being administered safely and appropriately. 
  • Monitor restrooms, tobacco use, pets, and pick up trash on an as needed basis. 

This position schedule is subject to change, which may involve employee to work days, nights, weekends, and some holidays. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, and in all weather conditions. Physical duties include; standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and walking on uneven surfaces, using a broom or rake, and heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. Employee must maintain reliable means of contact and transportation, and must be able to follow both written and verbal communication. To be successful in this position, the employee must have excellent interpersonal skills, maintain a high level of customer service, and require minimal supervision to complete assigned tasks. Employee must have the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision. Good interpersonal communication skills are required.

This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be knowledgeable and able to enforce rules for Athletic programs including Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading, Football, Softball, Kickball, and Pickleball

An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):

  • First Aid/ CPR/ AED certified
  • Experience in athletic programming (i.e. keeping a scorebook, operating a scoreboard, etc.)
  • Knowledge of City of Greensboro Parks and Recreation principles
