Function

The purpose of the class is to implement, direct, and oversee all programs, goals, and objectives within the assigned areas of benefit programs. The class works independently, under the limited supervision of the Director of Human Services or designee, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Minimum Requirements

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Sociology, Business or Public Administration or a closely related field and a minimum of five years of full-time equivalent comprehensive experience in direct benefit program delivery, three years of which shall have included supervision of others.
• A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
• Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria

• Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
• Requires the ability to work independently and make sound judgments.
• Requires the ability to function as a team member and must be adaptable to performing effectively under moderate to high levels of stress.
• Considerable contact with the public, agency staff, State/regional social service program specialists and other community agencies.
• Some local travel required.
• Must maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information. The incumbent will be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
