General Definition of Work

Under general supervision, ensures the safety of patrons of the aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. You must be safety minded and customer service oriented. You will work in a fast-paced environment and will help to monitor the pool deck and maintain safety on water slides.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Aquatics Facilities Manager

Essential Functions

• Opening and closing the pool each day according to scheduled hours.
• Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
• Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
• Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
• Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
• Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
• Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment, assists with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents, and adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
• Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.
• Must be courteous and helpful to customers, staff and public.
• Performs additional duties as required.
• Follow city and department policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 6 months to 1-year of experience
• Must be available for weekends, and some holidays.

Special Qualifications

• Obtain CPR and First Aid Certifications from an approved organization within six months of hire.
• Certified Lifeguard training certificate.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 4 hour shift
• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Evening shift
• Weekends as needed
