Salary: $19.86 - $24.82

This position is posted as a Plant Operator Trainee. However, individual qualifications may allow for a higher level operator position. 

Responsibilities

  • Performs building and grounds repair, maintenance work, and required drainage control work.
  • Operates, maintains, and accounts for equipment and tools required in performance of work.
  • Performs operating, testing, maintenance, and repair work on water and wastewater treatment pumping facilities.
  • Performs equipment repair and maintenance on pumps and motors.
  • Records operational data, interprets data, and applies knowledge for outcomes in operations. Records meter and gauge readings on specific forms.
  • Records daily information on hours, activities, and personnel attendance
  • Cleans and maintains tanks and filter beds using hand tools and power tools.
  • Maintains, repairs, and lubricates equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Performs all work with minimum service interruption and property disturbance.
  • Adds chemicals, such as ammonia, chlorine, or lime to disinfect and deodorize water and other liquids.
  • Inspects equipment and tanks, or monitors operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions.
  • Collects and tests water and sewage samples, using test equipment and analysis standards.
  • Operates and adjusts controls on equipment to purify and clarify water.

Minimum Training, Education and Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Training, Education and Experience:

  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or associate degree and one year experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Requirements – Certificates/Licensures:

  • Ability to obtain a TCEQ D Water Operator Certification and a D Wastewater Operator Certification within 12 months

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed less than one third of the time to conditions such moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals, biohazards, and outside weather conditions. The employee may also be exposed to high, precarious places, and vibration. The employee may also be exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position may be called out 24 hours a day or rotate being on call, including weekends and holidays.

All safety-sensitive positions require selected candidates to undergo and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check to include, criminal background, driving record, drug testing and physical examination. Individuals holding this position will be subjected to random drug testing on a regular basis.
