WORKDAYS & HOURS: VARIOUS* *Subject to change
Description Of Duties/Essential FunctionsManages the operation of a regional recreation facility or several smaller recreational facilities.
The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties:
  • Assists in developing a player and coaching system that meets the development of both players and volunteer coaches at all levels (beginner to advanced).
  • Conducts workshops for players and volunteer coaches Mobile Tennis and creates a volunteer system partner with the community.
  • Assists in formulating rules and regulations with the tennis community.
  • Assists in developing a comprehensive coaching manual for the HPARD Youth tennis program for schools and community centers.
  • Assists in developing a coaching philosophy and playing style for youth tennis players.
  • Sets goals for sport instructors for Mobile Tennis.
  • Assists in developing coaching materials, complete with graphics, which use themes that are compatible with ethnic diversity and an urban lifestyle.
WORKING CONDITIONSThe position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
Minimum RequirementsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Educational RequirementsAn Associate's degree in physical education, art or a related field is required.
Experience RequirementsTwo years of experience in recreation or education are required.
Full-time recreation or educational experience may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-to-year basis.
License RequirementsMay require a valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCESPreferencesPreference shall be given to dedicated individuals who has a proven track record of:
  • Significant volunteer experience, particularly in youth-focused programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Passion for helping others and making a difference in the community
  • Flexibility and willingness to commit to regular volunteer hours
  • Mentor and support youth through various programs and activities
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with youth participants
  • Assist in planning and executing events and workshops
  • Collaborate with other volunteers and staff members to create a nurturing environment
  • Track and report volunteer hours and activities
  • Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
