Job Summary
Under the direction of management, the employee performs duties related to the operation and programs at the Recreation Center, including assisting with supervising part-time staff, classroom programming, and ongoing training. This is a full-time, non-exempt position working approximately 40 hours/week. Evenings and weekends are required, as hours may change to meet divisional responsibilities. This position is overtime eligible.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists with recruiting and training all Guest Services employees, including Leads.
- Assists with administrative duties of the Recreation programs, including but not limited to membership billing, system class entry, roster management, class scheduling, marketing information, and invoicing.
- Leads, supervises, and assists team members in daily duties. If necessary, handle disciplinary action.
- Verifies high-quality work is completed for every task and provides constructive feedback when changes or enhancements need to be made.
- Participates in planning course offerings for recreation programs.
- Participates in the Manager on Duty rotation, which may include evenings and weekends.
- Participates in facility management/operations activities of the Recreation Center when short-staffed.
- Maintains good housekeeping in all areas and complies with safety practices.
- Attends meetings and events as needed, including some outside regular work schedules.
- Provides support for all Recreation Division activities and events as needed, including front desk coverage, classroom set-up, event coordination, etc.
- Works cohesively with supervisors/managers to devise strategies to achieve the Resource Allocation goals established for the Recreation Division.
- Possesses excellent customer service skills and can excel at applying the City of Hurst’s Code of Ideals practices in all interpersonal relationships with city staff and the general public.
- Communicate effectively with the public in explaining and defending City policies and procedures.
- Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical and appropriate.
- Regular and timely attendance is required for this position. Models, mentors, and monitors to encourage professional “workplace” behavior.
- Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others during daily work. Explains and defends City policy and procedure.
- Performs duties under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor; performs other duties as assigned.

- Advanced knowledge of RecTrac and Microsoft Office 365 programs.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Punctual, responsible, dependable, and professional; ability to work effectively in a public environment.
- Excellent leadership skills and the ability to motivate individuals through positive reinforcement. Advanced skills in establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, and visitors.

- Ability to sit for extended periods of time when performing administrative duties and observing members or guests.
- Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures; ability to impose disciplinary measures when required.
Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field, OR
- Two years of previous work in a municipal recreation center.
- Must have regular and punctual attendance, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work overtime as required.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Preferred Certifications
- CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain it within six months.
