The Property Appraiser's Office is actively seeking one (1) Customer Service Specialist.

This positions provides customer service to tax payers in person, over the phone, and through written communication. Employee will process a variety of exemption applications and verify exemption eligibility. Duties also include completing forms to initiate formal taxpayer protests and have understanding of the tax roll for inquiry responses.
Examples of Work

  • Completes the forms to initiate formal taxpayer protests.
  • Respond to customer telephone inquiries, referring complex and non-standard questions to supervisor.
  • Explains the purpose of the tax roll in response to inquiries.
  • Scans and reproduces image files.
Tax Payers:
  • Processes exemption applications for homeowners and explains the tax roll.
Tag Agency:
  • Verifies the type of mobile home sticker.
Value Adjustment Board:
  • Receives and sends late file petitions.
Other Divisions:
  • Coordinates information on ownership issues and building updates.
  • Alerts the Compliance team of potential homestead fraud.
Other County Appraisers:
  • Processes county-to-county.
  • Portability documents.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to ascertain customer's needs.
  • Ability to interact effectively and efficiently with a high volume of customers on the telephone and in person.
  • Ability to spontaneously and accurately explain exemptions and the tax roll.
  • Ability to calculate ownership percentage.
  • Ability to accurately determine eligibility for an exemption based upon the Florida Statutes, legal documents, and tax roll.
  • Ability to identify errors for correction.
  • Ability to maintain production and quality standards.
  • Ability to solve basic exemption problems and identify more complex issues for referral.
  • Ability to greet and answer taxpayer's inquiries competently and courteously.
Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

  • Must have a High School diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED).
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of customer service OR experience in a Property Appraiser Office that requires the demonstration of good organizational skills and an ability to listen and explain effectively.
  • Must be proficient in Windows software, including Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to type 40 words per minute.
Within three (3) months, expected to have basic knowledge of:
  • The Florida Statutes and Department of Revenue Rules and Regulations.
  • How to interpret legal descriptions and chain of titles.
