The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Senior System Administrator. The Senior System Administrator performs difficult professional work evaluating, managing, documenting, implementing, controlling, and troubleshooting City software/hardware; may be asked to serve as trainer, and lead on server applications and/or modifications of existing software; does related work as required. The work involves proficiency in managing large scale computer implementation and/or conversion projects. Strong planning, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are required. The work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology.

Essential Functions of Position:

• System Engineer/Admin - Main Datacenter: Maintain Hyperconverged System Servers, storage, and disaster recovery offsite.
• Architect new systems as needed by the Director or other departments.
• Evaluate security gaps in the COJC infrastructure and recommend and implement remediations or new solutions.
• Maintain host servers hardware and software on virtual and physical layers, monitor storage, troubleshoot Issues.
• Manage, configure, and recommend multiple SANS.
• VMWare Administrator - monitor storage, performance, increase storage for virtual server machines as needed, troubleshoot issues, maintain, and update host servers.
• Backups and restores - maintains Veeam onsite, and offsite.
• Domain Administrator - active directory, group policy, DNS, and DHCP -
• Manage/Create/Delete/Edit Policies daily, push applications and settings to endpoints, update/replace templates, maintain security.
• Exchange Administrator - troubleshoot email delivery issues through Exchange Admin Center, setup new mailboxes, adjust user permissions, quotas, export user mailboxes for offboarding, etc...
• Cisco Email Security Appliance for External Email Connection - Troubleshoot email flow issues, adjust content filtering as needed, release quarantined or spam emails, etc...
• Citrix Virtual Desktops and Applications, and Servers - Maintain, Monitor, and troubleshoot fix issues with connections, Remote Desktop Access, Update Servers and Applications on the servers as needed.
• Manage multi-factor authentication.
• Print Server Administrator - Maintain/Troubleshoot Printers and Print Drivers. Setup Security groups and Active Directory Group Policies to automatically push printers to users.
• Cisco Umbrella (Cloud DNS Security) - Maintain Web/URL filtering, troubleshoot website access, create/maintain/adjust web filtering policies as needed or requested.
• AntiVirus (AV) and Client Endpoint Firewall Management - Maintain/Create/Troubleshoot.
• Tier 3 Support - provide IT Technicians, IT staff, and End Users with assistance solving computer related problems, such as malfunctions and program problems.
• Windows Server Administrator - Install, Setup, Test, and troubleshoot and issues with servers on virtual or physical boxes. Test, install, maintain, update and monitor computer programs and systems, including coordinating the installation of computer programs and systems.
• Windows Patch Management - Windows Computer and Server Security Patch Updates.
• Develops detailed instruction manuals/procedures/ work instructions for Users and Administrators on all software and administrative tasks.
• Determine need of automation by departments and plan and implement.
• Assist in yearly budgeting process and identification of new/replacement technology.
• Other duties as assigned by IT department supervision.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 5 years experience with Microsoft Server OS and VMWare. 5 years experience with SANs and other storage devices. Background check. Extended periods of sitting at a workstation or desk. Manual dexterity to work efficiently on a computer keyboard for data entry. This position is "on-call" 24x7.

Acceptable Experience and Training: Graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with major course work in computer science supplemented by recognized training in a computer programming operation, system analysis and mathematics as applied to computer operations and considerable work experience involving office procedural analysis and programming for a data processing system; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
