The Part-time Fire Captain position is a non-benefited position. Part-time positions are limited to 960 hours on a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30). Due to budgetary constraints, operational budgets do not include funding of CalPERS employer contributions for part-time positions. Therefore, a qualified candidate who is a member of CalPERS from current or past employment may be restricted from part-time employment.

The City of La Habra Heights Fire Department is currently accepting applications for Part-time Fire Captain. This is a position of authority tasked with managing all fire station activities while also responding to 911 calls on a Type I Paramedic Engine in Los Angeles County. The La Habra Heights Fire Department is comprised of 90 personnel, providing fire and advanced life support services to a community of approximately 6,000 residents in an area of 6.1 square miles. The City is comprised of primarily residential homes located within an urban wildland interface. The Fire Department is the primary 911 provider for the city and surrounding auto/mutual aid areas of Los Angeles and Orange County.

Part-Time Fire Captains work a flexible 24-hour schedule (0630-0630) of 4 shifts per month with an opportunity to work additional shifts if backfill is required. Part-time Fire Captains manage the daily operation of a fire station including training, vehicle maintenance, facilities maintenance, emergency response, and mentoring a crew of volunteer firefighters. Part-time Fire Captains can expect to gain valuable work experience specific to incident command and personnel management. Compensation starts at $27.33 per hour. This part-time position is limited to 960 hours per year. Part-time Fire Captains are not eligible for city benefits.
