GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of routine clerical and technical work associated with a community recreation program for youth and adults, including cultural arts, physical activities, special interest classes and summer programs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Parks & Recreation Administrator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None generally. May supervise part time recreation staff, special interest instructors, seasonal employees, and volunteers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Respond to public inquiries about youth & adult recreation programs made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings.
Handles and resolves concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
Assist with programs, registers participants for activities, collects fees, distributes and collect uniforms.
Responsible for greeting and responding to member and guests needs, promote memberships and programs, and communicating information accurately and efficiently.
Assist in maintaining a variety of records, including registrations, reservations, permission slips, vandalism, etc.
Performs data entry, files, accurately handles financial transactions and processes various enrollments, cancellations, and other member changes.
Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phone, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, making arrangements for rental and use of recreation facilities, helping set up tables and chairs for classes, etc.
Clean facilities as assigned.
Assist in the scheduling of activities.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Serve as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
Other duties as required.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
(A) High school diploma or GED equivalent.
(B) One year recreation experience; or
(C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A) Knowledge of recreation equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program;
(B) Skilled in the operation of tools and equipment; Skilled in First Aid and CPR.
(C) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid Florida driver's license. First Aid and CPR certification (or obtain within 6 months of hire).
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Calculator; copy and fax machine; computer; phone; mobile or portable radio; automobile; various sports equipment used in recreation programs.
