The City of Littleton is seeking a full-time Education Program Coordinator for the Littleton Immigrant Resources Center (LIRC) in the Edwin A. Bemis Public Library.
 
The Education Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Littleton Immigrant Resources Center (LIRC) Education Programs for adult learners. Programs include English as a Second Language (ESL) and Citizenship instruction. The Program Coordinator is also responsible for the recruitment, orientation, training, and monitoring of volunteer tutors, and performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties for the education programs.
 
The ideal candidate will have a passion for adult education; demonstrable experience developing ESL curricula and coordinating adult volunteers; strong skills in communication, organization, and time-management; the ability to handle multiple priorities; and a customer-focused service philosophy and should feel comfortable with community outreach and a customer service-based philosophy. Additionally, the ideal candidate must be comfortable engaging in regular community outreach, and in interacting with individuals from different cultural, economic, and religious backgrounds. Hiring pay range $30.21 - 33.39 per hour
 
This full-time position is non-exempt per FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
 
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position working 40 hours during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. Additional evening and weekend hours may be required. Work is typically performed onsite, but the incumbent may arrange for occasional telework as necessary, in coordination with the LIRC Supervisor.

Start Date: The anticipated start date for this position is Monday, August 5, 2024.
  • Creates and maintains ESL and Citizenship curriculum.
  • Oversees lesson plans for ESL and Citizenship classes and tutoring.
  • Schedules adult learners’ classes and tutoring sessions.
  • Supervises the work of the ESL Instructor and volunteer tutors.
  • Administers evaluations to determine students’ language proficiency level and progress.
  • Teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in the absence of the ESL Instructor.
  • Recruits and trains current and new volunteers.
  • Matches volunteers with students.
  • Develops and maintains an online training program for volunteers.
  • Organizes and coordinates quarterly volunteer trainings.?
  • Prepares and distributes the volunteer newsletter.
  • Provides ongoing educational support to volunteers.
  • Coordinates volunteer and student appreciation days.
  • Manages database of students and volunteers.
  • Collects and maintains statistics pertaining to the LIRC’s Education programs and prepares reports as required.?
  • Assists with grant research, writing and reports.?
  • Promptly returns calls from students and volunteers. 
  • Accurately tracks timelines and deadlines and ensures forms and steps in the English/Citizenship learning processes are completed correctly.
  • Works with the Library’s Marketing Coordinator to keep LIRC-related information on the website and social media sites up to date.
  • Handles payments for classes and tutoring.
  • Collaborates with library staff on cultural programming.
  • Performs other assignments and projects as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; and 
  • Two (2) years of ESL/ELL or training adult learners including experience managing and training volunteers; or 
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check. 
 

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience using Salesforce
  • Ability to develop curriculum, lesson plans, present training materials and teach others.?Requires in-person and online teaching skills, including ability to use video conferencing software and navigate digital teaching materials.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication for report writing, correspondence, providing customer service and giving directions or feedback.
  • Proficiency in common computer software programs, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Ability to solve problems independently within general guidelines.
  • Ability to identify areas of improvement, and plan and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Decisiveness and good judgment to address pressing project matters when time is limited.
  • Organization and time management to manage multiple tasks, sometimes for multiple projects, at once.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and guide other teachers, volunteers, and students in making consistent progress.
  • Ability to set realistic deadlines and strategize daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress.
  • Strong recruitment/outreach skills.
  • Strong technology and data entry skills.? 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: 

  • The essential duties for this position are performed in an indoor office environment and in an outdoor setting where the employee may experience adverse weather conditions. 
  • The work is performed sitting, standing, and walking. 
  • This position generally includes physical effort involving the frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 15 pounds with or without assistance, and occasional pushing and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.
