City of Marietta (GA) is Hiring a Master Control Technician Near Marietta, GA
Rate of Pay: $20.75 - $23.64Status: Open Until July 25, 2024This is a senior level dispatch position within the Power Control Center of the Engineering division of the BLW. This position is responsible for all Power Control Technician functions and providing technical guidance to Power Control Technicians when needed.
Monitors actions of Power Control Operators for compliance with established policy and procedures.
Provides technical assistance to Power Control Technicians as needed or in complex or dangerous situations
Provides training of new personnel as assigned
Monitors the electrical power control center and communications center including:
Dispatching appropriate personnel and equipment as required
Arranges and coordinates switching for electrical crews, inspectors and operations personnel for the maintenance and or restoration of power in affected service areas
Responds to calls from various authorities and service personnel within the BLW
Responds to BLW customer calls concerning service problems; directs callers to proper authorities as needed
Monitors the city/BLW water tanks and sewer lift stations levels and status. Responds to water level problems by controlling the pump switches to maintain proper water levels in the supply tanks. Other related activities include:
Reports to water and sewer authorities of any abnormal conditions and directs all related calls to appropriate personnel
Dispatches appropriate water and sewer personnel to job site for the repair, maintenance or inspection of affected area
Administrative functions include the following:
Researches, draws, prints and maintains files on electrical easements. Retrieves electrical drawings as needed
Maintains and updates files on:
Georgia DOT permits: pending, approved, notice to proceed, notice to other utilities, and regulation. Poleattachments: transfers, attachments, and updated list on poles to be pulled Responsible for inspecting residential temporary poles. Transformers: load test program, three-phase inventory, records cards, metering card file, capacitors, etc
Must submit weekly and quarterly reports on substations feeder loading, and transformer quantity
Writes routine job orders to replace damaged poles, pole transfers, electrical equipment, customer services, and setting recording volt meters
Maintain up-to-date phone numbers of all key personnel within the city/BLW and other local utilities
Assists in minor designs for engineering as assigned.
Monitors the video security system for the BLW buildings, parking lot and surrounding areas. Checks security doors in the BLW administrative building. Reports suspicious persons or behavior in and around BLW grounds to city police
Must stand call on a rotating basis and whenever needed to ensure appropriate staffing for the Power Control Center
Monitors weather systems to determine if additional service personnel need to be placed on “standby status.” Alerts affected personnel of inclement weather warnings
Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Minimum of three years' experience as a Power Control Technician. Additional education may be a substitute for experience
Must possess ITS certification and completion of MEAG’s radio training program.
Must have a thorough knowledge of electrical distribution theory including the functions of electrical components such as circuit breakers, regulators, capacitors, transformers and other related parts.
Must have good verbal communications skills including skill in using and understanding technical jargon and terms used in the electrical industry. Must be able to speak English clearly and concisely to deliver information on the phone and radio system
Knowledge of computer communications operations, i.e., to input data, build and manipulate files or find information
Skill using MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and
Access and other software as needed
Must be able to work flexible hours and different shifts as assigned
Must have a valid class “C” Georgia driver's license and a satisfactory seven-year driving history to include no DUIs in the last five years. Drug screen required at time of hire
