City of Miami Beach is Hiring a City Manager Near Miami, FL

GovHR USA, part of MGT Consulting, is excited to announce its partnership with the City of Miami Beach, FL (pop. 80,000) in a nationwide search for a highly professional, creative, and dynamic City Manager with a proven track record of success. This position serves a dual purpose – as public administrator and chief executive officer of Miami Beach and will be entrusted to collaborate with a newly seated City Commission to oversee municipal operations and engage in transformational change that will redefine the future of one of the most unique, beautiful, and high-profile communities in America.

The successful candidate must be an ethical and innovative leader who is unafraid to explore unconventional approaches. They should exhibit both courage and wisdom, adept at overseeing extensive programs and projects while prioritizing the delivery of exceptional resident services.

The Commission is dedicated to elevating residents' quality of life while continuing to foster economic growth. Beyond overseeing significant capital ventures, the incoming City Manager must demonstrate agility in overseeing day-to-day functions such as street maintenance, park preservation, waste disposal and others. The ideal candidate should have a team orientation and serve as both a mentor and an inspirational leader, cultivating an environment that motivates staff to achieve both organizational and personal goals.

This position presents a distinctive opportunity to embrace challenges while engaging in world-class opportunities to interact daily with a vibrant and diverse mix of residents, businesses, community groups, and various high-profile global influencers. The chosen candidate will welcome a variety of fresh perspectives and inventive concepts from city leaders, demonstrating professional strength in offering insightful guidance to elected officials, even when it may differ from prevailing opinions or be deemed unpopular.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, master’s degree preferred. In addition, applicants must have at least five (5) years of executive-level leadership experiencein a complex, dynamic, and diverse government or private sector organization combined with experience dealing effectively with diverse cultures. City or county government experience is preferred. Demonstrated professional management and leadership skills in a variety of areas more fully outlined in the job description.

Total Compensation

Recognizing that attracting top-tier talent necessitates corresponding compensation aligned with the demands of the role, the City Commission is ready to extend a competitive salary package. Contingent upon the qualifications of the chosen candidate, the Commission will engage in negotiations for a base salary starting at $360,000, accompanied by comprehensive executive benefits. The Commission favors future residency for its next City Manager to fully immerse them in the Miami Beach lifestyle. Depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications, a housing allowance may be negotiated as part of the total compensation package. Relocation assistance is also available.

The City also provides comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance; health savings and flexible spending accounts; paid time off; wellness incentives; paid parental leave; 457 retirement plan and more. Employees do not pay Social Security taxes. The City also has its own defined benefit pension plan with a 4% annual multiplier and 4-year vesting schedule for the City Manager. The plan offers a maximum benefit of up to 80% of your highest five-year average salary, depending on your total tenure with the City, up to the limitations set forth in Section 401 (a)(17) of the Internal Revenue Code and regulations promulgated thereunder.

Application Process and Anticipated Schedule

Candidates must apply electronically at www.GovHRjobs.com with a resume, cover letter, and contact information for five professional references by June 14, 2024. Candidates are advised that the City Commission expects to receive a briefing on the top six to eight candidates from the consultant on July 10, when they expect to choose three to four finalists. Final in-person interviews are expected to be conducted in public with the City Commission on July 24.
