SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:Thecurrent annual recruit starting salary is $47,673.69, with an increase to$63,564.75 upon graduation from the Academy and increases to a maximum of$84,743.87 (subject to contractual guidelines).

SELECTION PROCESS:
The examination process may include a written test, astate-mandated physical readiness test (an information video regarding thisexam is available at), a structured interview panel, a writing sample exercise, andbackground investigation. All phases of the examination must besuccessfully completed in order to continue in the selection process.Failure in any segment of the examination disqualifies anapplicant.Qualified candidates will be notified of the time and locationof the written examination. Candidates who successfully complete the writtenexamination will receive information about the date, time, and location of theother testing components.
If you will be unavailable forone or more portions of the examination due to military service or training,you must provide written notification to the Fire and Police Commission, CityHall Room 705 or fpcjobs@milwaukee.gov prior to the examination.
ELIGIBLE LIST:Candidateswho successfully pass the examination process will be placed on an eligiblelist for Police Officer, with ranking based upon the test scores plus anyapplicable preference points (see below).
PREFERENCE POINTS:Preferencepoints may be added to the final passing score in accordance with StateStatutes and Fire and Police Commission Rules.
Inorder to receive military veteran points you must submit your undeleted DD-214.
Inorder to receive residency preference points you must submit copiesof two (2) documents that verify you live at the City of Milwaukee address thatyouclaimed on your application. Both document(s) submitted must includeall of the following: First and last name, Complete numbered street address(post office boxes will not be accepted), City, state and zip code. At leastone (1) of the document(s) yousubmit must verify that you lived at thisaddress during the application period.
Inorder to receive education preference points, you must submit your unofficialtranscripts from an accredited institution proving you have earned a degree ina related field (e.g. criminal justice, law enforcement, police science.)
Thepreference points may be claimed via the online application, and the necessarysupporting documentation may be uploaded to the online application, mailed tothe Fire and Police Commission at Room 705, City Hall, 200 E. Pre-employment MedicalExamination,Psychologicalevaluation and drug test:Individualsoffered employment must pass a pre-employment medical examination,psychological evaluation, and drug test as a condition of employment.Psychological exam results are valid for one year from date of exam regardlessof outcome.

Unless otherwise requiredby law, the City of Milwaukee will not provide alternative test administration.The applicant is responsible for attending all phases of the job selectionprocess at the time and place designated by the City of Milwaukee. The names ofsuccessful candidates will be placed on the eligible list in a rank determinedby the final score without reference to the date of the examination.
Passing exam results arevalid through the end of the year, while the results of the PRT are valid forexactly 180 days.
