City of Milwaukie is Hiring a Permit Coordinator Near Milwaukie, OR

The City of Milwaukie is making strides toward fully realizing its potential in the metropolitan area. Offering both a small town feel and close proximity to Portland, Milwaukie acts as an unassuming village with big city amenities. Like many jurisdictions throughout the metro, it is experiencing remarkable development and growth. There are several exciting projects that sit within each phase of the building review pipeline (i.e. Henley Place Apartments, Hillside Park, and Seven Acres Apartments) and the historic downtown is at the cusp of an inspiring evolution. 
 
This position would get to work with a creative, solution-orientated, and friendly team of building professionals, as well as coordinate with a planning, engineering, public works, and community development group that is both helpful and supportive. The building division recently relocated from the city’s Johnson Creek Boulevard facility to a new city hall now located at 10501 SE Main Street (Old Advantis Credit Union building) in downtown. The development process can be fast paced and demanding at times. The city is looking for someone who is motivated and able to be resourceful, collaborative, organized, and process oriented.
  • Coordinate and track project permitting through community development for complex developments
  • Perform daily deposit procedure
  • Intake, verify and process permits
  • Answer phones and respond to emails
  • Assign addresses for construction projects
  • Data entry, minor label processing, fulfill records request, and duties as assigned
  • Person to person front count inactions to assist and guild customers in permitting process, procedures and general assistance in the permit submittal process

Education, Training and Experience

(Any combination of education and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties of this position. Prior paid and unpaid work experience and education listed are typical ways of obtaining the required qualifications. Other equivalent combinations of education, training and paid and unpaid work experience will be considered.) 

  • High school diploma or GED; AND
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative support experience related to construction, permitting, building inspection, or engineering; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licensing/Special Requirements: 
  • Possession of Permit Technician Certification within one year of hire.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
  • ePermitting experience
  • Accela experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience compiling data and generating reports
  • Experience coordinating between teams
  • Creating and establishing templates, processes, and procedures
  • Any ICC or Oregon BCD certification related to the Building division
