The City of Milwaukie is on the lookout for a Water Division Supervisorwith a forward-thinking approach to lead our Public Works Water Division. This role is not just about managing operations; it’s about helping to steer our community’s water utility towards a sustainable and equitable future. You will be at the helm of our water production and distribution teams, playing a crucial role in pivotal projects that will shape the city’s infrastructure, which include:
  • Upgrades to our water treatment and production facilities.
  • Improving water storage capacity with innovative solutions.
  • Integration of energy efficiency projects into our water facilities.
  • Participate in long-term strategic water system planning with sustainability at the core.
Milwaukie is looking for someone that values accountability, accessibility, efficiency, collaboration and equity and is deeply committed to public service, environmental stewardship, and is looking for an opportunity to create and maintain a resilient water system that can withstand the challenges of climate change.
This position is open until filled with the initial screening of candidates planned for June 24, 2024 and first-round interview planned for the week of July 8, 2024.

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the city’s water utility
  • Develops and manages the water division's budget
  • Provides and implements recommendations to improve and/or optimize water operations
  • Ensures compliance with all federal and state drinking water regulations
  • Ensures staff is working safely and efficiently

Required Education, Training and Experience
(Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties of this position. Prior work experience and educational requirements listed are typical ways of obtaining the required qualifications. Other equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered, including unpaid work experience on a year-for-year basis.) 

  • High school diploma or GED; AND
  • Specialized training in the operations of water production, treatment, distribution and storage systems
  • Five (5) years of experience relating to the operation, construction, repair, and maintenance of water systems i including one year of supervisory or leadership experience; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licensing/Special Requirements:
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver license and acceptable driving history. 
  • Must obtain OSHA Confined Space and Competent Person Certification, and Traffic control certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Certifications are required within one year of hire: 
  • State of Oregon Water Distribution III 
  • Backflow Inspection 
  • Water Treatment I certification

Hybrid Work Options: After successful completion of probation, this position may be eligible to work remotely up to one day per week in accordance with the city's telework policyand at the Department Director's discretion.Compensation: The salary range for this overtime-exempt non-represented position is $6,734 – 8,595 per month.
