City of Muscatine is Hiring an Equipment operator Near Muscatine, IA

  • This is work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of Public Works infrastructure. Drive medium to heavy duty trucks in hauling various materials;
  • perform manual work in clearing work sites of debris. Load and unload materials by hand or use of a front-end loader; perform road maintenance;

operate various hand tools. Snow removal, sanding, salting of roadways and street cleaning. May operate a variety of other pieces of light, medium, or heavy equipment in the absence of regular operators, or for training purposes.

Fabricate signs and barricades. Operate and maintain manual and power-driven paint stripping machines. Perform related work as required.

Starting wage is $24.35 / hour with a competitive benefits package that includes health and dental coverage, pension through IPERS, and paid vacation and sick leave.

The City will pay to cost of training to obtain a CDL for the right candidate!!

  • Some experience in manual labor work & operation of light or medium weight trucks; or any equivalent combination of experience & training which provides the following knowledge, abilities, & skills :
  • Knowledge of traffic regulations & the safe operation of medium to heavy weight trucks
  • Knowledge of the precautions necessary to work safely with & around mechanized equipment
  • Knowledge of principles & operation of motor equipment sufficient to detect defective operation
  • Skill in the safe and efficient operation of assigned equipment
  • Ability to lift moderately heavy items, and be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without an accommodation
  • Ability to perform manual labor related to the operation of motorized equipment
  • Ability to understand & carry out oral & basic written instructions
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance at work, including ability to be in an on call rotation.
  • Ability to engage in cordial, cooperative, and professional interactions with coworkers at all times.
  • Ability to pass physical and drug screen following job offer
  • Possession of current Commercial Driver’s License of the license & must be insurable by the City’s insurance carrier, & maintain such throughout employment
  • Must reside within 30 air miles of City limits
