City of New York is Hiring a College Aide – Ferries Finance & Budget Division Near Staten Island, NY

The NYC Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division seeks a College Aide for the Finance and BudgetUnit. Under direct and general supervision of the Acting Director for Finance and Procurement, the College Aide will perform analytical and administrative work to assist the Finance and Procurement department of the Staten Island Ferry. Selected candidates will receive hands on training in the City’s budgeting, purchasing and procurement processes and also grant tracking and management. Tasks that the College Aide can expect to do at the Staten Island Ferry include, but are not limited to: reviewing and drafting bid documents and specifications for SIF purchasing actions, assisting the review of invoices from vendors in PASSPort, analyzing spending data and preparing reports and forecasts to assist in budget planning, communicating with vendors to ensure that their compliance documents are up to date, etc.
Examples Of Typical TasksAssists with review and drafting of bid documents and on purchase actions. Review of vendor actions in PASSPort, anyalysis of spending data and reports for projects. prepares paperwork. Performs light filing, copying, and office organization.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred. Excel and Access a plus.
Additional InformationTWIC REQUIREMENT: Once selected for employment at the Staten Island Ferry, federal regulations require that the applicant must either undergo a federal background check as part of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program or already possess a TWIC. The TWIC must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment. For further program information, visit: https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic.

HOURS/SHIFT: 35 hours/Monday-Friday

Minimum QualificationsFor Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology)Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow)Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
