LAW ENFORC EMENT ANALYST
POLICE DEPARTMENT

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for researching, collecting, collating,
evaluating, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence information and crime data. Reports to a Police
Captain.
There are two levels of Law Enforcement Analyst, distinguished by the level of work performed and
the qualifications of the employee.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Compiles and analyzes criminal and intelligence data to locate and identify patterns and trends and
establish criminal profiles on career and violent criminals to aid in the prevention, suppression and
resolution of criminal activity, as well as assist in making connections between members and criminal
organizations; uses complex databases and software applications such as geographic information
systems (GIS) mapping systems, artificial intelligence networks, i2 link charts and other analytical
methodology; creates photo spread lineups to assist with investigations.
Assists detectives in case development and resolution by synthesizing or integrating analysis of data
to discover facts; generates and distributes reports of findings to aid administrative and operational
personnel in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of criminal
activity; provides assistance to increase apprehensions and the clearance of cases; performs in
accordance with guidelines, procedures, and laws to include the release and dissemination of juvenile
information and work conducted on internal investigations.
Performs necessary research for criminal and intelligence data analysis to further assist the
department in solving the current cases or preventing future crimes tracked by the Analytical
Services Unit; prepares and maintains comprehensive reports, summaries, statistical reports, charts,
graphs, and maps of classified and unclassified information for department personnel in accordance
with training, laws, policies and procedures; testifies in court.
Monitors databases to ensure compliance with established procedures and applicable regulations and
laws; attends meetings and maintain liaisons with other local, state, and federal analyst professionals;
attends investigative and patrol lineups as needed to facilitate information flow.
Develops and maintains database programs for departmental personnel and public audiences;
instructs others in the use of crime and intelligence analysis and how to interpret statistical
information; creates and distributes intelligence bulletins, crime alerts, and other analytical reports;

maintains and issues wanted posters and officer safety and awareness items; conducts presentations
to departmental personnel and public audiences.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Law Enforcement Analyst- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Intelligence, Statistics, Geography, or a
related field. Experience performing analyses with ArcMap, i2 Analyst Notebook, Rigel, or PenLink
and familiarity with NIBRS protocols and Crime/Intelligence Analysis certification is preferred.
Law Enforcement Analyst, Senior - Requires any combination of education and experience
equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Intelligence, Statistics,
Geography, or a related field and at least 5 years of experience in crime or intelligence analysis work,
or a closely related field including experience in working with computers and statistical computer
applications. Experience performing analyses with ArcMap, i2 Analyst Notebook, Rigel, or PenLink
and familiarity with NIBRS protocols and Crime/Intelligence Analysis certification is preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a comprehensive background investigation to include a local, state and federal criminal
history check; sex offender registry and credit check. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal
secret clearance.
A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Responds to homicide call backs when needed.
