City of North Miami is Hiring an Utility Coordinator Near North Miami, FL

Supervises and coordinates installation and maintenance of municipal water distribution,stormwater and sewer collection facilities; does related work as required.
 
An employee in this class is responsible for duties such as organizing and supervising the work of a group of unskilled, semiskilled and skilled workers. Although primary emphasis is on supervisory functions, the employee frequently performs skilled tasks. Instructions are received orally or in written form from a supervisor; however, the employee must use considerable independent judgment in making decisions and coordinating the various work activities.
Monitors the installation, repairs and maintenance of all stormwater collection systems insuring all Federal, State and County water quality standards are followed. Monitors the work performed by City sub-contractors doing drainage projects.
 
  • Issues work assignments to employees, evaluates performance and recommends disciplinary action as required;
  • Supervises and, assists in all work assignments;
  • Provides cost estimates of material, equipment and labor for all capital projects;
  • Ensures staff safely and properly uses hand tools, gas/electric powered equipment and heavy equipment;
  • Determines location of Utility services for contractors and others prior to digging;
  • Maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies;
  • Trains or provides training opportunity for employees on proper safety practices;
  • Purchases all materials and equipment;
  • Responds to and resolves resident complaints;
  • Maintains records and prepares reports, as required.
  • Supervises and assists in making repairs to storm sewer lines, manholes and catch basins;
  • Lays out and closely supervises pipe installation and repairs, and assures proper backfill procedures are performed;
  • Determines location of stormwater mains and services for contractors and other prior to digging;
  • Determines the proper placement of concrete and mortar for repairing or construction any and all catch basins or inlets.
Equipment Used/Job Location: Works outdoors under varying weather conditions; works in confined spaces during inspection of unsafe hazards and conditions on or around construction sites; operates a motor vehicle and various heavy equipment; as well as equipment developed or advanced from future technology as required by the job. High school graduation or equivalent, plus a minimum of 3 years' experience and/or coursework in one of the following areas: stormwater collection and transmission
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Florida commercial driver license “Class B” or higher.
Possession of a valid Florida Stormwater Collection and Distribution “Class C” license
  • Thorough knowledge of methods, practices, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used to maintain the assigned Utility;
  • Thorough knowledge of hazards and safety issues to workers and the public involved in all assigned Utilities; 
  • Thorough knowledge of the operating principles and practices and the maintenance requirements of the equipment and machinery utilized in the assigned Utility;
  • Ability to plan, lay-out and direct the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers, operators of equipment and other staff; Ability to read and interpret plans and designs and to prepare rough sketches of work to be performed;
  • Ability to adapt new methods and practices of the trade to better perform the daily operations of the assigned Utility;
  • Ability to estimate labor, equipment and materials required to perform specific tasks;
  • Ability to prepare all accident and reporting forms; 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other City employees, the public and other governmental agencies;
  • Ability to teach the Confined Space Entry Program;
  • Physical ability to perform assigned duties.
