Emergency Medical Personnel – Part-Time EMT Description EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER Respond to medical emergency calls and provide medical attention in a pre-hospital setting. Starting Annual Salary:
$ 19.00 per hour w/ annual 4% increase after 1st year
As of May 1, 2023 CBA with AFSCME 2817 Essential Duties
Duties include (but are not limited to): evaluate patients' signs and symptoms and apply first-aid or life support as needed; operate equipment needed effectively; extricate and transport patients; inspect, clean and maintain vehicles, equipment and property; inventory and maintain supplies and materials; complete required paperwork and forms; follow departmental protocols and governing rules and regulations; department assistance as needed to benefit the Department of Public Safety & the City. Requires
High school diploma or equivalent.
Current State of Illinois EMT license. Those without a State of Illinois EMT License must have a license recognized by the National Registry and able to reciprocity.
Meet the State's continuing education & 4-year recertification requirement.
Must be able to achieve a passing score on an EMS Region IV SOG Exam.
Skills and temperament to handle medical emergencies in a competent, calm, non-stressed fashion.
A valid driver's license in good standing (IL Class C or equivalent within 45 days).
Ability to efficiently and courteously interact with people.
Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
Rotating shift work (12 & 24-hour shifts).
Ability to submit a schedule of availability every month (at minimum, four 12-hr, shifts per month).
Must pass a background check to include, physical exam, drug testing, work steps, and psychological evaluation.
Physical Requirements
Ability to run, walk, stand, sit, climb stairs and climb obstacles.
Ability to lift, pick-up and carry objects, equipment or people (carry: 87 lbs; lift: 130 lbs) and pass an essential functions evaluation (physical).
Work in hot, cold, wet and other undesirable environmental conditions
