City of Oxnard is Hiring an After School Site Specialist Near Oxnard, CA


The City of Oxnard’s Cultural and Community Services Department is seeking a After School/Youth Development Specialist. We seek individuals with strong supervisory, technical and customer service skills to be part of the Recreation Division within the Cultural & Community Services Department. The current vacancy supports the Oxnard Scholars After School Program.

WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

  • Coordinates after school programming at designated school site

  • Reports to the Recreation Analyst and Supervisor overseeing the program

  • Communicates daily with site instructors, office staff, administration, teacher Liaison, parents, and students

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the operation of the program

  • Exercises supervision over students, after school program instructors, and volunteers

  • Enrolls students in the program and monitors enrollment/attendance daily, and adheres to attendance policies and guidelines

  • Maintains students' registration and health information and digital files ofFederal Program Monitoring (FPM) documents

  • Completes attendance, and meal count reports for OSD Child Nutrition Services,as well as flyers, parent letters, and site newsletters

  • Sets clearly defined program rules and creates a positive, fun, safe, and activeprogram environment for students

  • Organizes parent orientations to teach parents program policies and studentnights to showcase work and celebrate accomplishments

  • Attends regular meetings with designated school site principal, ASP liaison, OSD Admin andCity program management

  • Attends bi-monthly meetings with fellow program specialists and City program management

  • Attends professional development sessions

  • Keeps record and tracks City program instructor Signs in/out sheets daily as well as completes individual timesheet

PAYROLL TITLE: Cultural and Recreation Services Specialist 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is distinguished from the Cultural and Recreation Services Technician, Senior in that it provides the planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating of an assigned program and related resources.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
May serve as lead worker, assigning work and monitoring work completion; or may supervise paraprofessional and/or support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures. Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.

(This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.)

Maintains communication with the public and/or program stakeholders by providing program-related information, program guidance and by responding to requests and inquiries.

Plans, coordinates, oversees and administers programs and services; monitors program performance, procedural compliance, status and outcomes; reviews and resolves issues and conflicts; provides recommendations and implements approved program enhancements.

Monitors and tracks program statistics related to area of assignment; prepares reports and provides program updates; completes and submits required forms and related documentation.

Plans for and maintains program supplies and materials; monitors required resources and initiates purchases of supplies and equipment; monitors program expenditures; maintains documents, files and records.

May schedule and coordinate volunteer assistance with daily programming; assists with special projects and new program development.

Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

The following are the minimum qualifications necessary for entry into the classification:

EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) years of related experience

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record
  • Valid First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within six months of employment

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to communicate in English effectively both orally and in writing.

NOTE: For most positions, the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office/Google) and web-based enabled tools, therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.

Regular and reliable attendance, effective communication skills, and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions.

Employees are required to participate in the City's direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.

This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
