City of Panama City Beach is Hiring a Wastewater Facility Maintenance Supervisor Near PCB, FL

This position is responsible for supervising the maintenance and repair of the wastewater treatment plant and related facilities.
 
  • Supervises and participates in the responsive repair and maintenance of a variety of treatment plant equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Manages special projects as assigned, including system upgrades and major repairs.
  • Researches, designs, and fabricates parts.
  • Lays out work, maintenance and repair schedules, and assigns employees to specified duties.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; makes purchases as needed.
  • Supervises and schedules preventive maintenance of treatment plant equipment.
  • Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies when on-call.
  • Assists in budget preparation.
  • Performs related duties.
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
  • Ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations related to wastewater treatment.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant equipment operations and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of the safe operation of industrial tools and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of carpentry and plumbing principles.
  • Knowledge of inventory management principles.
  • Knowledge of grounds and forestry management principles.
  • Knowledge of personnel management principles.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements for tools and practices used in maintenance activities.
  • Skill in the design and fabrication of parts and equipment.
  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.
  • Skill in the analysis of data and the preparation of reports.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Skill in performing additions, subtraction, multiplication, and divisions.
  • Skilled in the use of computers for data base management and word.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Wastewater Plant Operations and Laboratory Supervisor assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the Clean Water Act, FEDP rules and regulations, EPA rules and regulations, government procurement guidelines, OSHA rules, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied facility maintenance and supervisory duties. Inclement weather and unexpected equipment breakdowns contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to supervise the maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant.. Successful performance results in the safe and regulatory compliant treatment of wastewater.

  • Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, vendors, contractors, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to exchange information, motivate persons, resolve problems, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office, a treatment plant, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, noxious wildlife, contagious or infectious diseases, and irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of personal protective equipment.
  • The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • This is an essential position that requires performance of emergency duties and action to prepare, repair, and recover the City before, during, and after any adverse storm events (hurricane, tornado, ice storm, etc.) or other conditions (natural or man- made).

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has direct supervision over Wastewater Facilities Maintenance Mechanic.
